The Mystery of Edgar Allan Poe's Death


  •  Edgar Allan Poe's wife, Virginia, died in 1847, he became depressed.
  • He suffered from health issues and financial troubles while he worked.
  • Poe's last days of living remain to be a mystery to this day.
  • On, September 27, 1849, he left Richmond and was said to be on his way to Philadelphia.
  • On October 3, he was sited in Baltimore and said to be in agony.
  • Poe was sent to a hospital called Washington College Hospital.
  • On October 7, Edgar Allan Poe passed away at Washington College Hospital.
  • Right before he died his last words were, "Lord, help my poor soul".
  • Some say that he died from brain congestion, rabies, epilepsy, alcoholism, carbon monoxide poisoning, and many other conditions.
  • His true cause of death remains to be a mystery.
  • Rufus Griswold, Edgar Allan Poe's rival, took revenge on him by ruining his reputation and saying that he was a womanizer and a drunk.
  • Poe was one of the most persistent writers in America.
  • His works of literature remain to be fascinating to many readers to this day.
